Fast Food

The McDonald's at the Love's Truck Stop in Skippers, VA is the perfect place to eat if you're not hungry. That's because by the time you order and get your food, you will be.

Hard Rock Atlanta Writes Personal Insult on Receipt

Now, we visited Zoo Atlanta for the day. When the zoo closed, we decided to do a little sightseeing, and just sort of drive around downtown Atlanta for a while. Why not, right? When we saw the Hard Rock, we realized we were hungry. While we were discussing it, Lisa said, "well, yeah, ok, we could go, but won't it be hard to find a place to park?" Right when she said that, we came up to a sign for a parking garage. We figured we were meant to go there, so we did.

For those of you who are aware that we're doing Dave Ramsey's Debt Snowball, part of his Total Money Makeover, you should also be aware that this mini-vacation is budgeted, and it's covered by money that normally would be used to cover expenses when I have home-time. So while it seems extravagant, it's actually costing us less than if I just went home as I usually do.

So, we went to the Hard Rock. We were too friendly to the wait-staff, so between us and the kids they knew we were from Michigan, and that we were staying in McDonough (with the implication that both of these places are Timbuktu or farther out). Danielle and I both had the Hickory Bacon Cheeseburger, Lisa had chicken fajitas, JJ had something, and the little kids had something else. Imagine my surprise and deep personal feeling of terrible insult when I got this receipt:2-18-2009 - Hard Rock Hick Burger - 9;48;06 PM

Hick Burger. I'm insulted.

But hey, the Hard Rock was an experience, as usual. Not nearly worth the money, and it was a mistake to go there. At least the receipt was funny - it all evens out.

Valentine's Day

I saw an ad for Valentine's Day. It said, "Nothing says I love you like flowers."

So that's what I got her.

Nothing.

Happy Valentine's Day.

Zune

I've been looking for podcatcher software to replace iTunes. iTunes is ok, but there are a few features I would like that it doesn't have, and the fact that it doesn't use a regular Windows window means it has compatibility issues with other programs I run. One of these is my screen dimmer, monitorBright, which makes the screen dim enough to use while driving at night - iTunes just blazes brightly away in Mini Player mode, or doesn't display anything readable in regular mode). I also would very much like a rewind button - not only a slider that backs up in huge chunks. I listen to audiobooks, sometimes the files are as much as ten hours long, so if I miss a word and have to back up 1% of that - I have to listen to 6 minutes of book that I just heard, and by the time I get back to the word I missed, I'm daydreaming and miss it again!

So, I downloaded and tried Zune. After trying it a little, over a couple of weeks, I decided that there is one feature I like very much about Zune - it's very easy to find in Control Panel's uninstall list, which is alphabetical.

Goodbye Zune. You were horrible.

Somewhere in Oregon (if I knew, I would tell. I-5 exit 148, if I remember right).

p.s. Any recommendations on podcatcher software? I'd also like to be able to change the playback speed dynamically - some things can be listened to much faster than others! And hey, if I like it, I might write about it here (if I don't I almost certainly will!)
